Prize handover

Just a small follow up on the MEATCO Media braai that the Kudu FM Team won.
The first place prize was meat to the value of N$3000-00 to a charity of our choice.

We decided to split our prize between two different deserving groups, with the approval of Meatco.

N$2000-00 worth of meat was donated to the Hope Village Orphanage and as you can see on the photos this was greatly appreciated by them.

N$1000-00 was donated to a soup kitchen in Katatura, that Kudu FM has been involved with since its beginning mainly through our very own DJ Juan who is very involved there in helping out.

The “prizes” were very gladly accepted by both Hope Village and the Soup Kitchen.

The team members all felt that this was the right thing to do, and we were glad that we could make things a little easier, albeit for a short period, at the two centres. They do so much for the community and sometimes its hard enough to feed all the mouths, and the meat would go a long way to assisting in feeding the needy in our city.

The Kudu FM team is looking forward to the finals in November. Once again they we will try our best to be the winners that we can assist others more especially as it will be coming up to Christmas and we would like to try and make it a memorable year for the organizations and charities we would support, were we the winners again.

Wika Carnival

The annual WIKA (Windhoek Karnival) Procession through the city's main street is being held this Saturday, 12 April.  And of course the Kudu FM gang is going to be there with a float of their own!

The first WIKA celebration was held in 1953.  It was organized by a small group of German immigrants, and over 50 years on it is obvious that the carnival was a hit on the cultural calendar!

Every year the carnival has a different theme, and this year it is: "Wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann?"  This is German for: If not now, then when?  All the floats in the procession will be decorated according to this theme - we'll have photos of the Kudu FM float for you shortly!

One of the other highlights of the WIKA are their International Evenings.  Kudu FM will be giving away tickets for these events on 21 and 22 April - keep listening for more details!

Tune in to Kudu FM on Saturday, 12 April when we take you right to the WIKA procession!!

Meatco Media Chef Competition
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 01 April 2008

As you get the battle of the bands, you also get battle of the media (print, tv and radio) in more than just one way. One of the ways was the Meatco Media Chef of the Year and it was held on Friday, 28 March 2008.

It was a day filled with fun and laughter with a pinch of competitiveness.  Nineteen teams in total took part in this event and they had to prepare a dish according to the theme of their stall. In this case Kudu FM chose to host the Kudu FM Music Awards.

Each team received a huge Rump Quarter which they could prepare anyway they wanted to. We chose to fillet it and Shawn the ‘Skipper’ prepared it in traditional Namibian style on the open barbeque. From the vegetable category you had to choose one item. It could either be baby marrows, a butternut or gem squash. This would serve as your vegetable dish.  In this case butternut came up first and was steamed in aluminum foil on the open fire. Sonja did a marvelous job with this and it tasted heavenly.

The starch was a very tricky number, couscous.  Some onions, garlic and peppers were sautéed in butter in a pan and then chicken stock was added after which the couscous.  The whole idea was that the couscous should still be flakey and not soggy. It must have been great because we were awarded 3 place for it.

Overall Kudu FM came 1st.

A very big thank you to Meatco for hosting this event and making it a very memorable day indeed.
